Longyan Aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark is located in Longyan City, the western part of Fujian Province in China. It boasts a beautiful landscape rich in geological heritage in an area of 2,175 square kilometers.
The geopark has witnessed a long history of geological development in the region, has preserved rich and diverse geological relics, and is integrated with the western Fujian Hakka culture and red culture. It is a geological park with geological scientific significance and equal historical and cultural connotation.
The youth has been appearing in various activities here. Longyan Geopark Conservation and Development Center was listed among “the Second Batch of Popularization and Research Bases (Camps) for Geosciences” announced by the Geological Society of China. This is not only a good platform for youth to popularize the knowledge of geosciences, but also plays a positive publicity role in spreading the spirit of science and expanding social influence.
In addition, young people also play an important role in the activities held in Longyan Geopark. For example, the 2021 Longyan Geopark Tik-Tok Competition-“Visual Geology·Ecological Longyan”, Longyan Geopark Management Committee and Longyan Forestry Bureau, which promotes Longyan Geopark through short videos that are popular among the public, attracting more people, especially young people to know and pay more attention to Longyan Geopark, which has achieved good results in improving the visibility and awareness of Longyan Geopark.
At a time when all countries are facing unprecedented natural challenges, the youth from Longyan Geopark want to promote more geoparks to join forces to fight against natural challenges including disease, disasters and climate change. We also need to contribute better integration of practical project and policy, strengthen digitalization to survive in a sustainable way for the long term. Eventually, with the participation of young people, we hope to make our geoparks the most dynamic, resilient and resistant territory on earth.
