Ternate is one of the beautiful islands located in eastern Indonesia, precisely in North Maluku which has anything you are looking for. Anything including biodiversity, cultural diversity as far as geo diversity. Ternate has several active volcanoes since become a part of the field with “active strato-volcano at South Pasific”, that intersects from east asia to south asia. Based on the statement, there is a mountain with an altitude of 1,715 meters above the sea level that is formed in a complex tectonic areas, built by the interaction between the Philippine plate in the north, the Pacific plate in the east, the Eurasian plate in the west and the Indo-Australian plate in the south, we call it Gamalama. Based on the data of Badan Penanggulanan Bencana Ternate 2011, Gamalama volcano has time consuming eruption interval of 50 years and the brifestin one year. The erruption normally earnings space in the corecrater and that almost always magmatic, excluding for the explosion that happen in 1907 which took place on the eastern hill and produced lava up to the beach.
Local communities or Ternate indigenous peoples, depending on natural conditions such as the fertility of agricultural land, mining, and the charm of beauty around the Gamalama volcano have become the basis of community life. These natural conditions become the basis for community considerations to remain in their territory even though the area has designated as a disaster-prone area

Living in harmony and respecting nature has been part of the soul of the Ternate community since ancient times. Local wisdom such as Fere Kie and Kololi Kie are just a part of amount local wisdoms that grows and lives in the midst of the Ternate community. The Fere Kie and Kololi Kie ritual are the traditional knowledge about mitigation in dealing with disasters. Since ancient times, the people of Ternate have used the traditional knowledge of their ancestors by looking at natural signals before the Gamalama volcano erupted which was then passed on to their descendants until now. The preservation of this local wisdom certainly must be protected and preserved continuously because it is worthwhile for the people of Ternate, especially for future generations regarding knowledge to better understand nature. On the other hand, these local wisdoms also needs to be developed and added to the weight of the education system as part of disaster mitigation efforts because it has been carried out and proven since ancient times until now and has lived together and is believed by the community.
Regarding to the climate change, Ternate was included as the 10 selected cities for the CRIC or Climate Resilent and Inclusive pilot program along with several other cities. Ternate together with these cities are committed to ensuring inclusive climate-resilient regional development, through integrating climate change into the development agenda in their respective regions. The Head of the Ternate City Regional Research and Development Agency (Bappelitbangda), Dr H.Rizal Marsaoly,SE,MM. explained, the Ternate City Government has committed to confirming its concern for sustainable or pro-climate development through a long-term city resilience program compiled in the medium-term development plan document, which is currently entering the evaluation stage by the Government of North Maluku
